Jared Kushner’s father, Charles Kushner, chosen by Trump as ambassador to France

President-elect Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate Charles Kushner, a real estate developer and father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. Trump praised Charles Kushner as a leader and dealmaker who will advocate for the country’s interests. He also congratulated Kushner’s family. Charles Kushner was previously pardoned by Trump in 2020.

In his post, Trump also highlighted the work Jared Kushner did during his first administration, including on Operation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, and the Abraham Accords. Trump emphasized the importance of strengthening America’s partnership with France, one of the country’s oldest allies.

Charles Kushner had previously been sentenced to two years in prison in 2005 for tax evasion, witness tampering, and illegal campaign donations. He was prosecuted by Chris Christie, who later became the governor of New Jersey and ran against Trump in the Republican primaries. In 2019, Christie described the Kushner case as one of the most loathsome crimes he had prosecuted.

In 2020, Trump issued a pardon for Charles Kushner among other pardons after losing his re-election bid. Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner’s wife, was also mentioned in the post. Overall, the nomination of Charles Kushner as ambassador to France will be part of the efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries.
