An Indian American family who was verbally attacked with racist remarks on a United Airlines shuttle bus is planning to press charges against the woman responsible. Pervez Taufiq, 50, recorded the incident on Nov. 23, in which the woman hurled racial slurs at his family, calling them names such as “stinky” and “tandoori.” The video has since gone viral, directing anger towards the attacker.
Taufiq initially did not file a police report but has now been provided with the woman’s identity and intends to press charges. The woman gave an interview to a Fox affiliate, admitting to the incident and attributing her behavior to a previous brain injury. She also accused Taufiq of provoking her with derogatory terms, which he denies.
Taufiq’s primary concern is to demonstrate that the woman’s behavior was unacceptable. He wants to ensure that his kids see him standing up against such verbal abuse. Despite feeling sorry for the woman, he believes that her lack of remorse warrants pressing charges. It is uncertain whether the police will charge her with a crime.
Taufiq hopes that by taking legal action, he can send a message that racist behavior will not be tolerated. His decision to press charges underscores the importance of standing up against discrimination and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
