Members of the Jackson County Master Gardeners recently gathered for a meeting where Park Manager Carl Barnes provided an update on tree damage in the area caused by a windstorm in 2009 and subsequent tornadoes and strong storms in 2011. The group plans to plant trees in Jackson County Park in celebration of its 30th anniversary.
During the meeting, Jerry Akins delivered a presentation on plant propagation, providing valuable information to attendees. Jack Remick was also recognized for completing the requirements to become a Master Gardener, receiving a certificate in honor of his achievement.
The upcoming February meeting will feature Sheila Reed from the National Park Service at Russell Cave National Monument as a guest speaker. Reed will discuss wild edible plants and berries, offering insights into the natural resources of the area.
Those interested in becoming involved with the Master Gardeners organization can look forward to the next Master Gardeners class scheduled to begin in March. For more information on how to participate, individuals can contact Mike Sims at the Jackson County Extension Office at 256-574-2143.
The Jackson County Master Gardeners continue to engage with the community, providing education on gardening and conservation while coming together to beautify the local park in celebration of their milestone anniversary.
