Kids and Car Safety Urges Parents to Remain Vigilant After Spike in Car Thefts with Children Inside
As the holiday season approaches, Kids and Car Safety is warning families about the dangers of leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles following a spike in car thefts involving children. Over the Thanksgiving break, several incidents were reported where children were left alone in vehicles that were subsequently stolen, resulting in alarming and tragic outcomes.
Director of Kids and Car Safety, Amber Rollins, highlighted the increase in such cases during the winter months and stressed the importance of not leaving children alone in vehicles, even for a moment. The organization has documented 107 cases in 2024 alone where children were left unattended in stolen vehicles, with some incidents leading to fatalities.
With cases reported in various states including New Jersey, Maryland, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York, Kids and Car Safety is working to raise awareness and prevent these preventable tragedies. Parents and caregivers are urged to always remain vigilant and keep their children safe by never leaving them alone in vehicles.
