NBC10 Philadelphia: Delaware voters poised to make historic choices in U.S. Senate and House races

Delaware is gearing up for a historic election on Nov. 5, 2024, with voters set to potentially make history in multiple key races. The U.S. Senate race is particularly significant, with Democrat Lisa Blunt Rochester aiming to become the first woman and first Black person to represent Delaware in the Senate. Alongside Blunt Rochester, Democrat Sarah McBride has the chance to be the first openly transgender person in Congress if she wins the U.S. House seat.

Additionally, Democrats are hoping to maintain their hold on the governor’s office, while Republican candidates hope to restore political balance in the state government. The gubernatorial contest features Democrat Matt Meyer against GOP’s Michael Ramone.

The Senate and House races are expected to lean in favor of the Democrats, given the party’s stronghold in Delaware for many years. Blunt Rochester and McBride have raised significant amounts in campaign funds and have strong name recognition. Meanwhile, opponents Eric Hansen and John Whalen III face an uphill battle in the solid-blue state.

The candidates have focused on key issues such as education and healthcare during their campaigns. While the outcome of the gubernatorial race remains uncertain, all eyes will be on Delaware as voters head to the polls to cast their vote for these historic elections.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.
