The City of Milford in Delaware is currently considering two proposed ordinances that would regulate the sale of recreational marijuana locally. One ordinance would allow cultivation and testing facilities in designated zones but ban retail stores, while the other would permit retail stores in specific zones with restrictions. If neither ordinance is adopted, retail marijuana stores would be allowed in all commercial zones under state law. Additionally, both ordinances would allow for a compassion center to distribute medical marijuana. The city council is seeking community input through public comment sessions and workshops before making a final decision. The ordinances are scheduled to go in front of town council on December 9th and a public hearing at the Planning Commission on December 17th. City Council is set to have its public hearing on January 13th. While some neighboring towns have chosen to opt out of recreational cannabis sales, Milford is taking a more inclusive approach by considering regulations that balance public sentiment and economic opportunities.
