Biden pardons former elected official, lawyers, and medical bill company owner in clemency list

President Joe Biden commuted close to 1,500 federal sentences and pardoned 39 people, including individuals convicted of non-violent crimes, in the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history. Many of those who received pardons had already completed their sentences, but their crimes will now be wiped from their records. One recipient was Sherranda Janell Harris, a Connecticut woman who was convicted of federal drug charges at 24 and has since become a role model in her community.

Among those granted clemency were individuals involved in corruption, tax fraud, drug charges, and Medicare fraud. Former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora, convicted of orchestrating a pay-to-play scheme, had his sentence commuted, as did Anthony Le, who was sentenced to ten years for drug and gun charges. Malcolm Hartzog, whose life sentence was commuted to 30 years by former President Barack Obama in 2016, was also among the recipients.

Paul Daugerdas, a former law partner from Illinois convicted of overseeing fraudulent tax shelters, had his sentence commuted after being called “the most prolific tax cheat in United States history.” Elaine Lovett, a Michigan medical billing company owner convicted in a multimillion-dollar Medicare fraud scheme, also had her sentence commuted.

Additionally, Shaquan Hemingway, involved in an interstate drug trafficking operation, was granted clemency. These acts of clemency reflect President Biden’s efforts to address issues related to non-violent crimes and support individuals who have shown rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
