SBU Men’s Basketball Falls Short on the Road Against Delaware

Stony Brook men’s basketball suffered a tough 84-74 road loss to Delaware on Thursday evening. Despite strong performances from Joe Octave and CJ Luster II, who combined for 43 points, the Seawolves were unable to overcome the Blue Hens’ offense.

Stony Brook started strong, taking an early lead in the opening minutes of the game. However, Delaware’s three-point shooting helped them gain the lead, with the Seawolves responding with their own triples to stay in the game. A back-and-forth first half saw the lead change hands multiple times, with Delaware eventually taking a slim 39-37 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Delaware pulled away, building a double-digit lead that they maintained for the rest of the game. Despite a late push from Stony Brook, the Blue Hens held on for the win.

Head coach Geno Ford expressed disappointment in the team’s rebounding and lack of consistency. He acknowledged Delaware’s strong performance, particularly from their high-major transfers Lane and Camden, who were difficult to contain.

The loss drops Stony Brook to an overall record of 2-3 on the season. The team will look to regroup and bounce back as they continue their season.
