Final Approval Granted to Delaware Broadband Office to Provide Service to Underserved Residences and Businesses

Delaware Broadband Office Receives Approval to Expand Service to Unserved and Underserved Areas

The Delaware Broadband Office has been given the green light to bring broadband service to homes and businesses that are currently without access. After submitting their final plans and forms in December, the office received approval to move forward with the project. Connor Perry, the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program manager, stated that Delaware is one of the three states to receive a quick approval for the initiative.

With over 5,700 families and businesses identified as the recipients of this expanded service, the office is set to provide high-speed internet to some of the most rural and remote areas in the state. Private companies typically avoid servicing these areas due to the small profit margin, making this federal funding essential for bringing connectivity to these underserved communities.

Perry highlighted the importance of broadband access in enabling residents to access virtual healthcare, find job opportunities, receive education, work remotely, and stay connected with loved ones. He emphasized that this initiative opens up a gateway to various opportunities for those who have been lacking access to high-speed internet.

While administrative work and planning will take several months, the Broadband Office aims to begin early work on the project by June or July. This development marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring that all residents of Delaware have access to essential broadband services.
