Kyrsten Sinema’s financial disclosure reveals expenses on Saudi hotel and Taylor Swift merchandise

Former Democratic-turned-independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema’s campaign spent almost $700,000 in the final months before her retirement, with notable expenses including over $20,000 at a luxury hotel in Saudi Arabia and payments to foreign car services based in London and Paris. Other significant expenses included luxury hotels in various U.S. cities, airfare, and security services. Sinema also spent money on ending her time in office, such as closing down offices and refunding contributions. While her campaign raised only $2.52 in the final quarter, it spent big on fundraising and event consulting. Criticism and scrutiny of Sinema’s campaign spending have been ongoing, and she ended the year with $4.3 million still in her campaign account. Contact attempts made to Sinema’s campaign were unsuccessful, and her personal website has been taken offline. Despite the large expenditures, Sinema is following FEC guidelines by using campaign funds for necessary expenses related to her duties as a federal officeholder. Her campaign spending stands out compared to other retiring senators in 2024, with the largest expenditure being related to legal services by former Senator Bob Menendez. Additionally, Sinema made payments for meals, car services, automobile insurance, event gifts, and event catering during that time period.
