DOJ ensures life imprisonment for Cynthia Amalfitano murder

In a recent court ruling, a Wilmington man, Stephen Heck, has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2023 murder of Cynthia Amalfitano. Amalfitano’s body was discovered in Pike Creek’s Carousel Park after she was reported missing on September 25, 2023. The investigation revealed that she died from strangulation and blunt force trauma. Evidence including cell phone data, DNA, and bloodstains found in Heck’s vehicle led to his arrest, indictment, and conviction in October 2024. Attorney General Kathy Jennings described the case as a tragic reminder of the consequences of domestic violence, and praised the dedication of prosecutors and law enforcement in delivering justice for Amalfitano’s family. New Castle County Chief of Police Colonel James Leonard III emphasized the severity of Heck’s actions and the importance of holding offenders accountable. The sentencing reflects the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and the justice system in seeking justice and supporting victims of domestic violence.
