Delaware man killed in tragic crash on State Route 54


Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Thursday morning on State Route 54 in Springfield, Ohio. Michael Allen Ellis, 63, of Delaware, was identified as the driver and was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from his vehicle. The crash involved a single vehicle that had struck a tree after losing control while traveling south on State Route 54. Ellis was found to not be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

A dog was also found in the vehicle and was aggressive towards first responders. The animal was taken into custody by the Clark County Dog Warden. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is conducting a preliminary investigation into the incident. Dispatchers received a call about the accident at 3:33 a.m. with responders arriving to find the vehicle had crashed into a tree after hitting a fence post and a sign. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the cause of the crash.
