President Donald Trump has dismissed National Archivist Colleen Shogan, following through on a promise to change leadership after she was involved in a criminal case accusing Trump of mishandling classified documents. White House personnel director Sergio Gor confirmed the dismissal on X, thanking Shogan for her service. Shogan acknowledged the termination in a post on LinkedIn. The National Archives did not provide a response and the White House did not comment on who would replace her. The National Archives played a key role in the criminal case against Trump in 2022, alerting the Justice Department that he had potentially mishandled classified documents. Trump eventually returned some but not all of the records, leading to a criminal investigation and eventual dismissal of the case. Since taking office, the Trump administration has dismissed multiple officials involved in investigations against the president, including firing Justice Department lawyers and FBI officials. Two groups of FBI agents have sued the DOJ for using surveys to identify targets for dismissal.
