DeSean Jackson’s Decision to Join Delaware State as Latest NFL Legend Coaching at HBCU

Former NFL star DeSean Jackson is making a move to coaching at Delaware State, as reported by Jeff Lightsy Jr. of Victory Formation Media. The three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver is set to become the new head coach, joining the ranks of other former pros coaching at HBCUs. Jackson’s dream of coaching at an HBCU is becoming a reality with this opportunity.

Despite his lack of head coaching experience, Jackson’s college football and NFL background should give Delaware State a recruiting boost. Growing up on the West Coast, Jackson achieved NFL stardom with the Philadelphia Eagles, making him a familiar face in the region. The Hornets program has struggled under former head coach Lee Hull, with a record of 2-21 over two years.

Originally from the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles, Jackson played college football at the University of California, Berkeley, before making a name for himself in the NFL. His connection to the Delaware area comes from his time playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Details of Jackson’s coaching contract at Delaware State have not yet been disclosed. Following his retirement from playing in 2023, he served as the offensive coordinator at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, Calif. With Jackson’s NFL experience and passion for coaching at an HBCU, Delaware State is looking to turn their struggling football program around under his leadership.
