Five Thai hostages who were held by Hamas for 15 months have been released as part of a hostage-prisoner exchange deal with Israel. They were greeted by family members, the Thai Foreign Minister, and the Israeli ambassador upon their arrival in Bangkok. The hostages were among 46 Thais killed in a terrorist attack by Hamas in Israel in October 2023. After spending a few days in a hospital in Tel Aviv, they were reunited with their families and a Thai delegation. One Thai hostage remains in captivity, while the bodies of two others have been confirmed dead. Israel heavily relies on foreign labor, with Thais being the largest group of agricultural workers in the country. Following the attack, many Thai workers left their jobs in Israel, but the country has since recruited more workers from countries like India to fill the gap. Despite the challenges, the Thai workers who have returned to Israel express their love for working there and their willingness to continue contributing to the country’s economy.
