West Delaware Swimmers Represented on Dubuque Hempstead Boys State Championship Team – Mix 94.7 KMCH


West Delaware senior Braden Wenger and sophomore Caden Stickney recently competed in the Boys Swimming State Championship for Dubuque Hempstead, a team they represent through a Co-Op agreement with West Delaware High School. This partnership has been in place for several years and has proven to be successful as Hempstead clinched their first-ever state championship over the weekend.

The Mustangs secured the title with 213.5 points, defeating Iowa City West who finished with 181 points. Waukee placed third and Linn-Mar took fourth. Wenger participated in the prelims on Friday, ranking 20th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.41 and 31st in the 100 meter breaststroke. Stickney also competed, tying for 16th in the 100 Fly with times of 52.86 and 52.85. He finished 19th in the Breaststroke with a time of 1:00.99 and helped his team secure 9th place in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 21.55.

The success of Wenger and Stickney at the state championship is a testament to the strong swimming program at West Delaware High School and the collaborative effort with Dubuque Hempstead. These young athletes have shown dedication and skill in their performances, contributing to the historic victory for the Mustangs. The Co-Op agreement between West Delaware and Hempstead continues to provide opportunities for student-athletes to excel in swimming and represent their schools with pride.
