FHSU’s Department of Applied Technology celebrates a major milestone as they reach a 100 percent graduate job placement rate. Department Chair, Kim Stewart, expresses his satisfaction with achieving this mark, highlighting the hard work of faculty and company partners in creating successful pathways to employment. The success is attributed to the robust internship program offered by the department, with nine credits dedicated to internships.
Career fairs and strategic affiliations with Fort Hays Tech NC and Fort Hays Tech NW also play a significant role in the program’s success. The career fair hosted by applied technology attracted 68 companies and more than 200 students, leading to opportunities for summer internships, summer employment, and full-time positions. One of the objectives of the strategic affiliation is to address the housing shortage in Western Kansas by providing opportunities for students to become highly qualified construction workers and managers.
The partnership also creates educational pathways for students, such as the new AAS degree in building/construction site management offered by Fort Hays Tech NC. Students can earn this degree by completing one year at FHNC and a second year at FHSU to become highly qualified in residential construction. With the continued success of the program and the dedication of faculty and partners, FHSU’s Department of Applied Technology is paving the way for student success in the workforce.
