A group of Delawareans gathered at Dover’s Legislative Hall to protest against the Trump administration and its policies as part of the 50501 Movement organized by Indivisible Southern Delaware. The protest, held on President’s Day, was referred to by some attendees as a “Not My President’s Day protest.” Protesters expressed concerns about the administration’s disregard for the Constitution, separation of powers, and democratic values.
Cheryl Siskin, a leader of Indivisible Southern Delaware, displayed a sign reading “No oligarchs, no kings” to voice her opposition to the president’s actions. Ryan Matthews, an associate principal at a special needs school, attended the protest with his family to highlight his concerns about the president’s overreach of power and influence by unelected billionaires. Another attendee, Alex Houghtaling, expressed frustration about how the administration’s policies could negatively impact youth and education.
A similar protest in Wilmington at Rodney Square drew dozens of participants. Indivisible Southern Delaware plans to organize more protests throughout the state in the coming month. Protesters wanted to ensure that Delaware’s voice is heard by legislators and federal representatives in Washington DC as they continue to advocate for democracy, the rule of law, and the well-being of the people.
