Canada emerges victorious in overtime against USA to win hockey’s inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off championship

President Donald Trump has been promoting the idea of absorbing Canada as the “51st state” amid ongoing political tensions between the U.S. and Canada, leading to threats of tariffs and economic force. This backdrop has resulted in booing of the American national anthem at sporting events in Canada, including during a recent hockey matchup between Team USA and Team Canada. The game was marked by three fights between players from both teams.

Players on both teams condemned the booing of the anthem, but some American players revealed that they had planned for the fights in a group chat ahead of time. Team Canada players, however, stated that they were playing for their country and did not need to initiate fights. The general manager of Team USA invited Trump to attend the championship game, but he called in to speak with the players instead, taunting Canada on social media.

After the game, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared his thoughts on social media, stating, “You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game.” Trump’s mocking of Trudeau as “governor” has added tension to the already strained relationship between the two countries. The Canadian embassy did not respond to requests for comment on the situation.
