Former NFL running back Clinton Portis has joined DeSean Jackson’s coaching staff at Delaware State as the running backs coach and run game coordinator, marking his first foray into collegiate coaching. Portis previously played for the Miami Hurricanes, where he had a standout career from 1999-2001 and helped the team win a national title in 2001. In the NFL, Portis was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2002 and had a successful career with the Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins.
Jackson, who also had a successful NFL career as a wide receiver and return specialist, was hired by Delaware State in November and spent the previous season as the offensive coordinator at Woodrow Wilson High School in California. The addition of Portis and Jackson to the coaching staff brings a wealth of NFL experience and expertise to the Delaware State football program.
Portis’ transition to coaching in the college ranks reflects a growing trend of former NFL players entering the coaching profession. His leadership and knowledge of the game are expected to have a positive impact on the development of the running backs at Delaware State. With Portis and Jackson on board, the Hornets are poised to make significant strides in the upcoming seasons.
