SBU Softball Surrenders Lead in Fifth Inning, Loses to Delaware

Stony Brook softball suffered a tough 9-3 loss to Delaware on March 15. The Seawolves had taken an early lead in the game, but the Blue Hens rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring seven runs to secure the victory.

The Seawolves opened the scoring in the first inning, with Naiah Ackerman crossing the plate after an Alyssa Costello double. Madelaine Male started strong on the mound for Stony Brook, but Delaware took the lead in the second inning with a two-run homer.

Stony Brook fought back with a two-run double from Kyra McFarland in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. However, Delaware’s offense exploded in the fifth inning, chasing Male from the game and scoring seven runs to take a commanding lead.

Despite efforts from Jordyn Fray and Gabrielle Maday in relief, the Seawolves were unable to mount a comeback in the later innings. The team’s offense was stifled by Delaware’s pitching, ultimately falling for the second straight day.

Stony Brook will have a chance to rebound in the final game of the series on March 16 at the Delaware Softball Diamond. The Seawolves will look to bounce back and secure a victory to close out the series on a high note.
