Delaware defeats SBU Softball in series finale

Stony Brook softball suffered a 2-1 loss to the University of Delaware, moving to 2-4 in CAA play and being swept by the Blue Hens. The game saw Delaware taking an early lead in the first inning, but Stony Brook quickly tied the game in the second inning with a triple from Madelyn Stepski. Despite having opportunities to score in the third inning, Stony Brook was unable to capitalize against Delaware pitcher Billie Kerwood.

Kerwood dominated on the mound, striking out nine of the next 12 batters she faced and holding Stony Brook off the scoreboard. In the sixth inning, Delaware managed to take the lead with a double and a single, adding a run to their scoreline. Stony Brook tried to rally in the seventh inning, with Kyra McFarland and Naiah Ackerman getting hits, but Kerwood shut down the Seawolves with her 11th strikeout to secure the win for Delaware.

Despite a solid pitching performance from Gabrielle Maday, who replaced Crimson Rice in the sixth inning, Stony Brook was unable to overcome Delaware’s strong defense and pitching. The loss marked Stony Brook’s fourth straight defeat and dropped their overall record to 2-4 in CAA play. The team will look to bounce back in their upcoming games and improve their standing in the conference.
