Dolores Huerta, a lifelong activist and organizer, shared insights and lessons from her years of organizing during an interview at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque. Huerta, who co-founded the first union for farmworkers in the U.S. with César Chávez, discussed the current political situation in the U.S. and emphasized the importance of bravery in activism. Huerta, who turned 95 in April, was celebrated at a rally in Civic Plaza where she received birthday wishes from a crowd opposing President Trump. She also met with students and teachers in a Day of Service class honoring her legacy. Huerta’s message of courage and activism continues to inspire people to make a difference in their communities.
