Eric Howard, Executive Director of the American Discovery Trail Society, recently completed a 45-mile hike across the Delaware section of the trail with three other hikers. The American Discovery Trail spans from Cape Henlopen State Park to Limantour Beach, Calif., covering nearly 5,000 miles across the country.
Howard, who took over as Executive Director in January, embarked on the hike to celebrate Denton, Md., being recognized as the first Trail Town along the ADT. He walked 15 miles a day over three days and expressed his interest in exploring more sections of the trail in the future.
Reflecting on the experience, Howard highlighted the importance of advocating for trails like the American Discovery Trail, emphasizing the unique benefits they provide to local communities and users. He plans to continue promoting the trail and its value, potentially walking in Kentucky for National Trails Day and exploring the Delmarva Peninsula with a larger group next spring.
