Ten schools in Delaware have been recognized with the Purple Star School designation for their exceptional support of military-connected students. Governor Matt Meyer recently honored each school, signing a proclamation declaring April as the Month of the Military Child. The Month of the Military Child is a national acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by military children as their families serve the country.
Each of the award-winning schools has gone “above and beyond” to provide assistance to military children, who face unique challenges such as frequent school transitions and time spent apart from deployed family members. Jennifer Davis, Delaware commissioner for the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission, praised the schools for their efforts in supporting these students.
The schools receiving the designation are located in the Caesar Rodney and Lake Forest Districts, close to Dover Air Force Base. The Purple Star School program aims to recognize schools that create a supportive environment for military families, acknowledging the sacrifices made by these students and their families.
