Gov. Matt Meyer of Delaware recently took a significant step towards ending homelessness in the state by signing an Executive Order to establish the Delaware Interagency Collaborative to End Homelessness. The Collaborative aims to identify and consolidate the state’s homelessness funding, programs, and resources to ensure that every person in the community has a safe, stable place to call home.
Governor Meyer emphasized the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders, including other governments and organizations, to maximize efficiency and provide comprehensive services to vulnerable individuals and families. The Collaborative will also focus on directing analysis and recommendations for increasing services and decreasing homelessness, with an annual report to track progress.
Delaware State Housing Authority Director Matt Heckles highlighted the need for a multi-faceted approach to tackling homelessness, which includes providing temporary housing and essential supportive services to help individuals transition into permanent housing situations.
The Executive Order was signed at the Hope Center, Delaware’s largest full-service homeless shelter, which opened during Meyer’s tenure as New Castle County Executive. The establishment of the Delaware Interagency Collaborative to End Homelessness marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to address homelessness and provide support to those in need.
