Family and friends are mourning the loss of 72-year-old John Christiansen, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver while sitting at the end of his driveway in New Castle, Delaware. The incident occurred on April 19th when Roland Fleming drove onto the grass and struck Christiansen, who was sitting on his electric scooter outside of his son’s house. Despite life-saving efforts, Christiansen passed away the following day, leaving behind his two sons, seven grandchildren, and his wife of 44 years.
Christiansen was a dedicated volunteer for the nonprofit “Hope in Him” in Delaware, where he helped those in need by donating food, repairing bikes for veterans and children, and offering support to others. The family hopes that Christiansen’s tragic death serves as a reminder to never drink and drive, as it can have devastating consequences for innocent individuals. As they prepare for a celebration of life service, they urge others to intervene if they know someone struggling with alcohol or drug addiction and prevent them from getting behind the wheel. Fleming is currently charged with vehicular assault and driving under the influence, with further investigation pending to determine if his charges will be upgraded following Christiansen’s death.
