Monmouth Softball Falls to Delaware on Senior Day
West Long Branch, N.J. – April 29, 2025 – Monmouth University’s softball team honored seniors Lexi Castaneda and Isabella Slape during a heartfelt Senior Day ceremony but unfortunately fell to CAA leader Delaware, 4-0, at MU Softball Park.
Castaneda made her mark by reaching base twice, complementing Liv Smith, who recorded a hit and a walk, maintaining her team-leading .311 batting average. Izzy Bonacci delivered a commendable performance in the circle, completing the game with 10 hits allowed and only four unearned runs in 103 pitches. She has now achieved four consecutive complete games, showcasing her stamina and skill.
Despite the defeat, Monmouth’s offense exhibited patience at the plate, drawing four walks and placing runners on base in five of the seven innings. Gianna Stern highlighted the game with a key double in the seventh inning, while Clare Picone continued her impressive on-base streak.
Delaware capitalized on Monmouth’s three errors and took control early, scoring an unearned run in the second and three more in the fourth. The Hawks will next face Rutgers on Tuesday, April 29, with live coverage available on Big Ten+.
