Rep. Sarah McBride Looks Back on Her Initial 100 Days in Office and the Challenges That Lie Ahead

Rep. Sarah McBride Reflects on First 100 Days in Congress

In an exclusive interview with political reporter Sarah Petrowich, Rep. Sarah McBride discussed her transition from Delaware State Senator to the state’s first congressional representative after 100 days in office. McBride highlighted her commitment to defending Delawareans against federal budget cuts and supporting initiatives that benefit her constituents.

“While my role in Congress has shifted more towards defense, I’m employing the same collaborative approach that served me well in the State Senate,” McBride explained. She noted efforts to protect funding for vital programs like Medicaid, which serves one in four Delawareans, from proposed Republican cuts threatening the program’s integrity.

McBride celebrated bipartisan legislative successes, such as introducing the Ending Scam Credit Repair Act and the Save Our Poultry Act to combat avian flu, reflecting her commitment to support local businesses and consumers. Despite the slower pace of change in Congress compared to the state legislature, she remains optimistic about passing necessary reforms.

McBride emphasized the critical role of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership Program, which aids small manufacturers in Delaware. After uniting colleagues against budget cuts proposed by the Trump administration, she successfully campaigned for the restoration of funding, protecting over 400 jobs and preserving $75 million in economic activity.

Facing challenges, including targeted hostility related to her identity as the first openly transgender member of Congress, McBride remains focused on her legislative goals. “I will not be distracted by the antics of a few,” she affirmed, advocating for serious policy over partisan theatrics.

Looking forward, McBride plans to prioritize Medicaid defense and continues her commitment to engaging with Delawareans. “Traveling across the state allows me to be a voice for my constituents,” she stated, reiterating her dedication to addressing the real issues facing her community in the months ahead.
