Delaware Advances to Semifinals with Narrow 7-5 Win Over Hofstra
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – In a thrilling elimination matchup, the University of Delaware Blue Hens (38-15) secured a 7-5 victory against Hofstra University (22-28) on Friday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium, advancing to the semifinals of the CAA softball tournament.
Hofstra initially took control, scoring two runs in the opening frame. Dahlia Palacio started the scoring with a grounder, allowing Alanna Morse to slide in, followed by Mackenzie Fitzgerald, who was hit by a pitch to extend the lead to 2-0. However, Delaware quickly responded, with Chloe Blantz and Sydney Shaffer setting up a three-run homer from Cahalan, putting the Blue Hens ahead, 3-2.
Delaware’s Morgan Hess contributed with an RBI double and helped maintain a lead that grew to 7-3, aided by a sacrifice fly from Shaffer. Despite a late push from Hofstra, including a rally that closed the gap to 7-5, Delaware’s Billie Kerwood clinched the win with decisive defensive plays.
The Blue Hens now face Elon in another elimination game, with the winner set to challenge Campbell in the championship on Saturday.
