Delaware State Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting Following Vehicle Pursuit
Townsend, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred last night after a pursuit of a stolen vehicle. Just before 9:15 p.m. on May 9, 2025, troopers responded to reports of a stolen white Infiniti QX6 in Camden. A trooper initiated a traffic stop at Walmart after confirming the vehicle was reported stolen. However, the driver failed to comply, leading to a dangerous high-speed chase along Dupont Highway and later Route 1.
The pursuit concluded when the Infiniti crashed into another vehicle in Smyrna and became disabled. Upon stopping, the driver and three passengers attempted to flee on foot. During this time, the driver dropped a firearm, picked it up, and fled toward a wooded area while ignoring commands from the pursuing trooper. The trooper then discharged his weapon, striking the suspect, a 25-year-old man from Dover, who was later transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
Three other suspects were apprehended without incident. The involved trooper has been placed on administrative leave as per standard procedures. The Homicide Unit is investigating further, and anyone with information can contact police or Delaware Crime Stoppers.
