Hofstra Softball’s Season Ends with 7-5 Loss to Delaware in CAA Championship
Buies Creek, NC – The Hofstra Pride’s softball team fell short in a thrilling seventh-inning comeback against top-seeded Delaware, concluding their 2025 season with a 7-5 defeat at the CAA Championship on May 9. The sixth-seeded Pride initially grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning, driven by an early error and runs from Chelsea Villar and Mackenzie Fitzgerald.
However, Delaware responded swiftly with a three-run homer, flipping the score to 3-2. Despite a strong effort from Hofstra, which included a run from Lily Yepez after a triple, Delaware widened the gap with two more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, leading 7-3.
In a valiant last push, Hofstra’s Kellie Sandas walked to start the seventh, and Villar’s double set the stage for Alanna Morse and Anna Butler, who both contributed RBIs, closing the deficit to 7-5. Unfortunately, a close play at third and a strikeout ended Hofstra’s season with a 22-28 record.
As a note, this game marks the final matchup with Delaware as CAA rivals, with the Blue Hens transitioning to Conference USA on July 1, 2025.
