A spokesperson for Taylor Swift stated on Friday that an attempt to subpoena the singer as a witness in a legal case involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is meant to exploit her name for publicity. TMZ reported that Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, issued the subpoena in connection with the 2024 film "It Ends With Us." Swift’s team affirmed that she has no relevant information regarding the case, stating she was not involved in the film’s production and only licensed music for it—an involvement shared with 19 other artists.
The legal dispute began when Lively filed a civil rights complaint against Baldoni for sexual harassment and alleged retaliation after she raised concerns about his behavior on set. Lively accused Baldoni and others associated with the production of attempting to silence her through a retaliatory scheme. In response, Baldoni’s attorney labeled the accusations as false and part of a smear campaign.
In December, Baldoni filed a libel lawsuit against The New York Times for publishing Lively’s claims and subsequently initiated another lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and others for defamation and breach of contract. He is seeking $400 million in damages and a jury trial, with the trial scheduled for March 2026 in New York.
Swift was mentioned only indirectly in Baldoni’s legal documents, which included texts referring to a “Taylor” as a “megacelebrity friend,” confirmed by Baldoni’s team to be Swift. The controversy arose from her appearance in a text where Lively compared herself to “Khaleesi” from Game of Thrones, asserting her protective nature.
