Delaware’s Blue Primaries: Congress and Insurance Commissioner

Local Political Races Profiled for Party Primaries

In the upcoming party primaries for various political offices, several candidates are vying for the Democratic U.S. Representative spot, including Sarah McBride, Earl Cooper, and Elias Weir. While McBride is the favorite, Cooper and Weir remain in the race. Cooper, a community leader from Wilmington, has focused on affordable housing, economic development, and community revitalization in his campaign. Weir, a former congressional candidate, advocates for national security, economic policy, and immigration reform.

On the Republican side, Donyale Hall and John Whalen III are competing for the U.S. Representative position. Hall, a former Lt. Governor candidate, brings military and government experience to her campaign. Whalen, a former Delaware State Police officer, emphasizes his law enforcement background and construction business in his platform.

In the Democratic primary for Insurance Commissioner, Trinidad Navarro and Kayode Abegunde are facing off in a rematch of the 2020 race. Navarro, the incumbent, prioritizes consumer protections and enforcing insurance laws. Abegunde, with an accounting and finance background, aims to address issues like redlining in insurance coverage.

Overall, the primary races are heating up with strong contenders on both sides. However, with favorites like McBride, Hall, and Navarro leading the pack, the outcomes of these races are expected to bring interesting developments and potential shifts in the political landscape.
