Today marks the beginning of a new school year


Delaware County students are excitedly starting the 2024-2025 school year this week, with various districts beginning classes on different days. Delaware City Schools, Buckeye Valley Local Schools, and the Delaware Area Career Center started on Monday, while Olentangy Local Schools will begin on Thursday, and Big Walnut Local School District students will report on Friday.

Delaware City Schools held their Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday morning, where Ohio Wesleyan University President Matt vandenBerg spoke about the importance of education and community partnerships in helping students succeed. Superintendent Heidi Kegley expressed excitement about welcoming students, families, and staff back to school, highlighting the district’s efforts to ensure a successful and safe start to the school year.

New faces at Delaware City Schools include Julie Stewart as the principal of Carlisle Elementary and Jake Shafer as the assistant principal at Hayes High School. Both administrators expressed eagerness to meet students and become part of the school community.

The Delaware Hayes High School cheerleaders performed at the Convocation Ceremony, adding to the excitement of the new school year. The district has been busy preparing buildings, classrooms, and buses for the return of students, while also focusing on improving attendance to support academic success.

Overall, there is a sense of energy and enthusiasm throughout the district as students and staff reconnect and prepare for the start of a new school year. The district looks forward to partnering with families to ensure a positive and successful academic experience for all students.
