Tragedy Strikes as New Jersey Man Drowns in Delaware River by Bushkill Access

A tragic incident occurred in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area on Monday afternoon when a 39-year-old man from Lakewood, New Jersey drowned in the Delaware River. His identity has not been released by the National Park Service. The man’s body was recovered around 3:07 p.m. approximately 20 to 30 feet from the shore near Bushkill Access.

The NPS, along with dive teams from the recreation area and the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, were aided by rescue teams from Bushkill, Dingmans, and Westfall fire departments, as well as Lehman Township EMS, after receiving a call about the drowning at 1:45 p.m. This tragic incident follows another drowning in June near Milford Beach and a drowning in July at the Upper Delaware.

Kathryne Rubright, the managing editor of the Pocono Record and the Tri-County Independent, can be contacted at krubright@gannett.com for more information on this heartbreaking event. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, but this recent drowning serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety and vigilance when enjoying recreational activities near bodies of water. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.
