Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has joined the Turkish side Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Italian champions Napoli. The 25-year-old forward was left out of Napoli’s squad after a tumultuous season that saw the club finish 10th in Serie A. Osimhen had scored 17 goals in 32 appearances despite the team’s struggles.
Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray comes after interest from clubs like Chelsea, PSG, and Al-Alhi, but none were able to meet Napoli’s valuation or Osimhen’s wage demands. Napoli had set a release clause of $144.3m in Osimhen’s contract, which expires in June 2026. However, no club was able to meet the financial requirements for the striker.
Galatasaray, who will be playing in the Europa League this season after being eliminated in the Champions League playoffs, will benefit from Osimhen’s goal-scoring abilities. He will join former Napoli player Dries Mertens in Istanbul and will step in for the injured Mauro Icardi.
With the arrival of Osimhen, Galatasaray is hoping to strengthen their squad under new coach Antonio Conte. The team is set to face tough competition in the Europa League, going up against Tottenham, Ajax, and AZ Alkmaar. Osimhen’s loan to Galatasaray will provide him with a new opportunity to showcase his talents and help the Turkish side in their upcoming games.
