Delaware Democrats have maintained their supermajority in the state Senate and increased their majority in the House following the recent election. Democrats defended all their seats and flipped the 21st RD, increasing their majority to 27 to 14 in the House. This falls one vote short of a supermajority but allows them to pass tax bills and override vetoes without Republican votes.
There are six newly elected Democrats in the House, with Monica Beard falling just short in the 22nd RD, Tracey Miller in the 34th RD, and Terrell Williams in the closest race. In 2026, these races will again be competitive Democratic targets.
Republican Nikki Miller remains a close target in the 20th RD for 2026 after incumbent Democrat Stell Parker Selby won by a narrow margin.
In the House, the Democratic caucus elected Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown as Speaker, Rep. Kerri Evelyn Harris as House Majority Leader, and Rep. Ed Osienski as House Majority Whip. Rep. Minor-Brown expressed her gratitude for being the first Black female speaker and highlighted the growing diversity of the legislature.
In the Senate, Democratic leadership remains the same, with Republicans also electing new leadership with Tim Dukes as House Minority Leader and Jeff Spiegelman as House Minority Whip.
The new leadership aims to continue advancing policies that protect vulnerable communities and uphold shared values, with a focus on making life better for all Delawareans. The leadership election will be held on the first day of the new legislative session.
