Sussex County Council has approved a lease that will provide a home base for Dewey Beach-based EMS. The discussions for a new town hall and police station in Dewey Beach began in 2022 and after finalizing designs that are sustainable in the event of natural disasters, the facility will now also house Sussex County paramedics, allowing EMS workers to respond to calls faster.
In the meantime, Sussex County EMS Deputy Director Robert Mauch stated that his team needed a space as their former facility had been demolished. They have found a rental property on Rehoboth Ave to use until the completion of the Dewey Beach Town Hall Complex, which will also include the police station and paramedic station.
The approval of the lease by councilmembers will allow Medic Station 114 to move to the temporary location until the new complex is finished. Sussex County Council has increased their contributions to the project to $1.5 million, showing their support for the development.
Dewey Beach Town Council has already approved Costello Construction to begin work on the new complex in February. This move signifies an important step towards providing a better infrastructure for emergency services in the area and ensuring a faster response time for residents in need.
