Israel launched its largest ground and air attack on the northern part of the occupied West Bank since 2002, killing at least nine people, according to Palestinian health officials. The attack involved hundreds of soldiers and was planned for weeks, according to Israeli media reports. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported difficulties in reaching the injured due to Israeli forces preventing ambulances from entering the area.
Palestinian armed groups fought back against Israeli forces in the Nur Shams and Jenin refugee camps. The al-Quds Brigades and Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for targeting Israeli troops with explosive devices and engaging in clashes with the occupation forces.
Political analyst Omar Baddar suggested that the attack was part of Israel’s long-term plan to annex and ethnically cleanse parts of the West Bank. He noted that more than 650 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers in recent months, amid the ongoing conflict. This escalation in the West Bank comes as the world’s attention is focused on the Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.
The situation in the region remains tense, with the Israeli military conducting a major operation in the West Bank and Palestinian armed groups retaliating against the occupation forces. The international community continues to call for de-escalation and a return to dialogue to achieve a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
