Democratic leaders in the Delaware General Assembly have decided to halt the expansion project of the Capitol Complex due to new funding challenges presented by cuts from the federal government. The expansion project aimed to increase public participation, improve public safety, and provide additional office space. In light of the current financial situation, the leaders are focusing on funding critical programs for students, seniors, veterans, and families. However, a parking garage adjacent to Legislative Hall that has already been funded will still be constructed.
The House of Representatives has a busy agenda coming up, with bills focusing on utility services termination, school board meetings, primary elections, and vocational-technical high schools. They will also consider resolutions recognizing Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Autism Awareness and Inclusion Month, National Pet Day, Black Maternal Health Awareness Week, and Christian Holy Week and Passover.
On the Senate side, upcoming bills will address lethal violence protective orders and the Joint Legislative and Oversight Committee. Proposed agendas include topics such as the Delaware Lease-Purchase Agreement Act and genetic counselors.
The Senate and House will reconvene on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, to address these important legislative matters. Lawmakers are gearing up for tough decisions in the coming months as they work to balance the annual budget and prioritize funding for essential programs in the state.
